Grand Christening of Engine 19

This three-day event will take place from April 9 to April 11. It will feature a variety of festivities, including public ceremonies, train rides, special tours, a film screening, and exclusive photography opportunities.

Don’t miss out on this extraordinary event where you can ride behind Engine No. 19, take stunning photos of the engine, and watch the film The Emperor of the North, which features No. 19, inside the Roundhouse. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Day One – April 9: Christening in Sugarcreek

The celebration begins on Thursday, April 9, when Engine No. 19 will journey into the heart of the Village of Sugarcreek for a special public display.

  • 5:00 p.m. – Arrival at the Sugarcreek Depot followed immediately by the official christening ceremony.
  • 5:00–7:00 p.m. – Public viewing of No. 19 in downtown Sugarcreek.
  • 7:00 p.m. – Departure of No. 19 back to the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum.

Day Two – April 10: Rides, Tours & Movie Night
On Friday, April 10, visitors can ride behind Engine No. 19 and explore the Roundhouse.

  • Train Rides Behind No. 19: 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
  • Roundhouse Tours: 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.

The day will conclude with an America 250–Ohio event: “Ohio Goes to the Movies.” The museum will host a special screening of the Emperor of the North (PG), a film prominently featuring Engine No. 19. Tickets are free, but you have to get a free ticket to be admitted to the movie. We have only 250 tickets available, and we recommend that you register for tickets in advance.   • 6:30 p.m. – Museum reopens for evening guests.
  • 7:30 p.m. – Departure of No. 19 from the Visitor Center Depot for a short ride to the Roundhouse.
  • 8:30 p.m. – Movie screening begins inside the Roundhouse, with popcorn and drinks available.
    Following the film, guests will have the opportunity to view No. 19 on display outside the Roundhouse.
  • 10:45 p.m. – Event Concludes

Day Three – April 11: Final Rides & Exclusive Photo Shoot
The celebration concludes on Saturday, April 11, with additional train rides, tours, and a rare evening photo session.

  • Train Rides Behind No. 19: 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
  • Roundhouse Tours: 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.
  • 6:00–10:00 p.m. – Exclusive Photo Shoot of No. 19 at the Roundhouse. Photographers will enjoy premium access as the museum stages the locomotive in multiple scenes and locations across the yard. Limited availability.
